Thanks !

Thankyou for taking the time to view my blog !

From Sam.

More of his work...

I found this interesting because it was very similar to his soldier drawing however his quote about it says;

"Serves well as a transparent showcase of the fake things inherent in our society."

I reallly like his art style and subtle messages within his pictures.

interesting blog's

well ive been looking at other people's blogs and art and came across this blog....

http://godwin.ralert.net/blog/archives/brush/

i found his art style really interesting because he was scripted into the chinese airforce and forced to see the world through the eyes of his soldiers.....and his art style and pictures reflect that.

Further Storyboarding

Well i took some more pictures and edited them and began playing around again....this is probably closer to my final storyboard...its missing the last few pictures at the end and maybe one more in the middle but this is coming together well i think.....

Photo Essay Storyboarding.

Well ive taken a little over half of my images and have my audio tracks all edited and ready to go....so i began to edit my photo's in photoshop and then began to storyboard the sequence that the photo's will take....howevef because i still need to take a few more photo's which i have planned out, the sequence may change.....but well see.

Skateboarding is not a crime !!

My photo essay is coming along well, and included is one of my pictures for it......the audio ive chosen is a discussion between pro skaters on how communities have put actions in place to make government buildings and structures virtually unskatable these days.......

skateboarding....a way of life

Through my photo essay i plan to explore the journey and feelings of a skateboarder....from the enjoyment to the frustration to the creation of an art...

"Whether its a tre` flip on flat or some massive rail, it's all the same. When im rollin away, that feeling is something that only skaters can understand. If you've never stepped on a skateboard, you'll never get why we're out there every day cruisin down the street on something you consider a toy."-Dallas Rockvam

Major Project.....Major change...

Well ive taken a complete twist on my assignment as i found it EXTREAMLY hard to get the time to photograph the journey of the balloon as some of the resources werent avaliable......so i took a new take on skateboarders culture....bassically a typical day for a skateboarder these days means they cant skate anywhere, anymore....all the places have become unskateable so im documenting that....

The Red Balloon.

My major assignment is going to be a modern take on the old french short film, The Red Balloon which follows the story of a boy and his balloon around the town. My story however will be in the form of photos and tell the journey of the balloon till its found popped on a tree.

Major Assignment idea's

Well for our final assignment we have to create a photo essay...playing with the idea of old film and sepia colour filters i want to create the illusion of old photography and create the story of a balloon which tells the story of a child who finds and plays with a balloon and then loses it and it goes on a journey. The picture above shows the sort of image manipulation im planning to do the original photo's which im going to take.

3rd Brief: Website

Well this is my finished 3rd brief which was to take the idea's of the second brief.....ie: politics and news and make a webpage layout.
I decided on the title the soup kitchen because it sort of goes hand in hand with dishing out the hottest gossip and news.....thought it to be a good play on words....also it gives the website a bit of reativity and a name people rememeber.

Politics !

This is yet another attempt at a political statement....i decided to try the satirical political cartoon, inspired by Mark Knight's work who draws for The Herald Sun.

Political Poster Final

i think ive decided on the final submission for the political poster..i decided to go with the media advertising because i think it gives a stronger message across on more levels....especially with the use and construction behind the painting "The son of man"........ but i thought i would keep it simple so i removed all the slogans and headings and kept it simply image based....this allows the viewer to take a more personalised view of it and allow them to develop thier own synopsis of the image.....also there will be a written conponenet of 200 words explaining it anyway so any uncertainty will be cleared up in that...

Political Poster !

Well our next task is to make a poster, cd cover or something along that nature which is political in some way.......

i began thinking what i wanted to attack and decided that posters ussually have the most impact on statements and media.....then i thought....why not attack the media so i came up with, through the use of my idea's before with the painting of "The Son of Man" the concept slavery to media and the term "brainwashing" and this was what i came up with.......

Then after playing around with that concept and since we just had a federal election and stuff i began thinking of all the stupid promises and statements PM's make when trying to get votes and seal thier place in parliment....they really do play around....so this was inspired by that...

Im still unsure as to which one i will submit....

Matte Painting continued (Tutorial)

So ive been continuing my internet searching on matte paintings and artists and found many tutorials for photoshop on the basics and key elements that make up matte paintings...

- Line drawing (initial picture art)
- Flat colour
- texture maps
- shadowing
- further details
- finishing touches

i began this tutorial because it caught my eye, its a base line art image from a gme i really like "Bioshock" i followed the guys tutorial and came up with this final picture.....im quite happy with the final image as it was a first try.....the shadowing was by far the hardest part !!!.....

Matte Painting

Since my research paper is going to be on Ryan Church and his works on film using the concept "matte painting" i have been looking up alot of galleries and works on the internet for inspiration.

matte painting is bassically the use of photoshop and other image editors to manioulate and create fake backdrops and images using techniques such as flat painting, texturising and shadowing.
Matte paintings are used to create "virtual sets" and "digital backlots". They can be used to create entire new sets, or to extend portions of an existing set.

The Son of Man or the Son of Pop Culture

Anywho......with the image of the painting "The Son of Man" in mind and a few idea's running through my head i quickly played around in photoshop and came up with this picture......in all its simplicity its actually dealing with alot of depth in regards to temptation, business, advertisting, marketing and being "blinded" by what is thrown infront of us.

Bassically im trying to capture the fact that in this fast moving world, technology and advertising is everywhere and being highly driven by media and marketing.....its EVERYWHERE !!.....so much so we are almost blinded by it and unable to get away from it.

Research Paper Inspiration.

Well.....now that i have a grip on my machine self i had time to sit down and think of someone id like to study for my research paper.

I began thinking that i would like to study someone who works in the field i am most interested in and where i would like my course to take me and that is concept art and matte drawings which are used in film and special effects. One Person who has a great influence in this catergory and is a pioneer both in the films and work that he has done but also as a teacher is Ryan Church.

Ryan worked on films such as Star Wars Episode 2 and 3 and War of thr Worlds and is known for his drawings and art throughout the film industry.

Attached is just some of his artworks used in the development and concept stages of Star Wars.

Machine Self !!

Well it may seem weird at first.....as it did to me....but i perceived myself much like a vacuum.....in class we were asked to think of strengths and weaknesses that we perceived in ourselves and apon coming up with a few i saw many of these traits in a vacuum.

Ill explain....

Bassically im a very clean, efficient person who always gets the job done...but often in all my determination i go into things very head strong and my body must slowly catch up. Also a vacuum sucks up anything in its path and stores it......but has trouble filtering the information or choosing a specific...as im unsure my exact direction in life and careers this signifies that.

....this comes to the tank tracks.....ussually vacuums get stuck in places but i tend to be able to adapt to many situations so therefore the tracks signify this. Even deeper is the fact that the tracks are made up of skateboard components and car wheels...two of my hobbies and loves. Secondly the head and body of the vacuum is made up mostly of parts from a motorbike...Once more a large influence and hobby of mine.

Lastly the telescope signifies that i look into things very deeply and often like up small things that others dont see .

The Son of Man or the Son of Pop Culture

The Son Of Man is a 1964 painting by the Belgian Surrealist painter Rene Magritte. The name "Son of Man" is believed to have derived from the Abrahamic creation story. The modern businessman is the son of Adam, and the apple represents temptation (with which one is still faced in the modern world).

About the painting Magritte said,

Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see, but it is impossible. Humans hide their secrets too well....

Man, Machine and the self portrait

To start things off our first piece is to be a photomontage of a self portrait representing ourselfs as a machine......before i could really perceive myself as a machine or what attributes i had in regards to the term "machine" i found this image on the internet which i thought was quite ironic of the term "evolution" and "man and machine"....

Hi !

Well....Welcome to my blog......

to start things off i suppose i best explain what this blog is going to do....

Bassically its a collaboration of inspiration, imagery, design and digital media which relates to me somehow...

Each post will contain my own work or someone elses that appeals to me somehow and i will discuss the piece in detail and how it is perceived by myself. hopefully collecting a theme or basic rhythm throughout.

I suppose to start it off, this is a link to someone elses blog; Godwin, his work is amazing and this is his catergory "brush" which contains all his work within photoshop and freehand drawing..
